What the email checker does

How to use it

  1. Paste email addresses above, or upload a .csv or .txt file. We find the addresses in the text and remove duplicates.
  2. Click Check. A progress bar shows while it runs, and you can stop at any time.
  3. Download the results.

What it checks

Format

Is the address written correctly?

Domain

Does the domain exist and have mail records?

Mail server and mailbox

Does the receiving server answer, and does that specific mailbox exist? This is tested through a live conversation with the mail server, without sending an email.

Risk flags

Disposable (temporary) email services, shared addresses such as info@ or sales@, and likely typos such as gmial.com, with a suggested fix.

What the results mean

✓ Passed

The address passed all tests and the mailbox exists.

✗ Failed

The address is invalid. The format is wrong, the domain has no mail records, or the mailbox does not exist.

? Unknown

The result cannot be determined, usually because the domain accepts all email (catch-all) or the server uses greylisting. Be careful with these.

Every result also shows the reason, for example “Mailbox exists” or “Mailbox does not exist”.

Charts and downloads

After a check you see a Passed, Failed and Unknown breakdown, the most common reasons and domains, and a split between individual and shared addresses. You can download only the Passed addresses, or all results.

Credits

1 credit for each Passed or Failed result. Unknown results are not charged. Addresses you have checked before are served from saved results.

Limits

No service is 100% accurate. Some mail servers hide whether a mailbox exists, which is why those come back as Unknown rather than a guess. A Passed result means the mailbox exists, not that the person wants your email.
