How to Keep Your Cold Emails Out of the Spam Folder

5 min read

No one can promise inbox placement, because mailbox providers decide for themselves. You can, however, avoid the habits that send messages to spam and build habits that help.

1. Start with a clean list

Bounces and spam reports are the strongest signals against you. Check your list first, remove addresses that fail, and treat Unknown addresses carefully.

2. Authenticate your domain

Set up SPF, DKIM and DMARC for the domain you send from. They prove your emails really come from you, and most large providers expect them.

3. Warm up gradually

A new sending address that suddenly sends hundreds of emails looks suspicious. Start with a small number each day and increase slowly over a few weeks.

4. Write like a person

5. Make it easy to say no

Include a simple opt-out and honour it fast. A person who cannot unsubscribe will mark you as spam, and that hurts you more than a lost lead.

6. Watch the results

Track bounces and replies. If bounces rise, stop, find out why, and clean the list. Send in small batches until you trust the numbers.

Cold email is regulated. Follow the laws that apply to your recipients, and only write to people about something relevant to their business.
Check which emails work

Paste or upload your list. Only Passed and Failed results use a credit. Unknown results are free.
